Proteins have antioxidant properties?

Physical effort is associated with increased activity of free radicals (reactive oxygen species) and affects the prooxidative and antioxidant balance of the body. 

What are peroxygen free radicals? 

Physiology of human arise properly during oxidation in the respiratory chain in the mitochondria. In a healthy body, they are effectively broken down by antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase or peroxidase. They are also supported by antioxidant vitamins such as ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and tocopherol (vitamin E). Free peroxide and hydroxyl radicals are a very dangerous byproduct of oxygen transformation. 

So far, vitamins A, C, and E have been associated with antioxidative activity – more recent studies suggest that this action may also have proteins derived from whey (eg whey protein concentrate, WPC). Recently, 1 whey proteins (i.e. those from milk) have been associated with antioxidant activity. 

Before you shout, the scientists are not sure whether whey protein will provide such action in target tissues, because it must pass through the digestive system. For now, we have been able to demonstrate the effect of whey protein in vitro, and hence a long way to prove their operation in the human system. In vitro, whey proteins have an effect on glutathione, for example. Certainly, proteins support the building of muscle mass, slimming, may have some effect on the immune system, protect muscles during a diet with a negative caloric balance. If by the way they provide protection against free radicals – the better!
