Herbs with slimming properties

There is no doubt that effective slimming requires proper diet and physical activity, while so-called miracle diets do not bring any good results. However, it is worth remembering that some products may facilitate the fight against overweight. People who like using the gifts of nature should pay attention to herbs that have properties supporting slimming.

The first of these herbs is peppermint. Extract from this plant increases the secretion of gastric juice and bile in the liver, improves digestion and prevents bloating. Peppermint is used, among others, in abdominal pain, gastroenteritis, intestinal colic and mild liver failure. Mint also has other pro-health properties. It has antiseptic and antispasmodic properties and stimulates the nervous system.

Yarrow supports digestive processes, increases the secretion of gastric juice and makes the nutrients more absorbable. Yarrow is also an excellent disinfectant and anti-inflammatory agent. However, it cannot be used in excessive amounts. It is recommended to drink 1-2 glasses of brew, prepared with  one tablespoon of yarrow. In case of this herb, you should be careful due to the fact that in people who are allergic, it can cause an allergic reaction in the form of a rash.

Lovage can also help reduce fat tissue. Extracts from this plant support the work of the digestive system and prevent excessive intestinal fermentation. What’s more, the lovage alleviates indigestion, bloating and abdominal pain. It is also used in diseases of the urinary tract, upper respiratory tract and kidney failure.

Fragaria (Wild Strawberry)

Contrary to appearances, sweet fruit is not the only useful part of wild strawberry. The extract from the leaves of this plant has properties that support metabolism. Wild strawberry improves digestion, and at the same time is bactericidal. It is also useful in case of painful menstruation, inflammation and kidney problems.

Ginger is also worth noting. This plant has became very popular, among others, thanks to Angelina Jolie. The actress claims that she managed to quickly return to pre-pregnancy weight by drinking ginger tea. Ginger contains substances that support digestion and speed up the burning of fat tissue, and are also helpful in the fight against cellulite. It is worth remembering that ginger also has other pro-health properties. It warms up, supports cold treatment, has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. Preparing a ginger brew is not difficult. Simply grate a piece of root (30-40 grams) and squeeze the juice, then mix it with water. You can add a bit of honey to your taste.

Common Sage

Sage is another herb that increases the secretion of gastric juice and regulates the functioning of the intestines. It is often used in cases of gastroenteritis, because the substances contained in it limit the growth of saprophytic bacterial flora, prevent excessive fermentation, increase bile secretion and counteract painful bloating resulting from intestinal cramps and gas accumulation. In addition, the sage has astringent and antiseptic properties. It is used for skin wounds and ulcers, toothaches, anemia, asthma, menstrual disorders and bronchitis. Sage, however, should not be used by people with acute gastritis and people with types of cancer that are stimulated by estrogenic hormones.

Equisetum arvense (Field Horsetail)

Equisetum arvense is used primarily as a herb improving the condition of hair and as a mild diuretic agent. However, this plant also contains silica, which is a substance supporting metabolism. Field Horsetail should not be used by people diagnosed with severe heart or kidney failure. You should also keep in mind the fact that horsetail contains an anti-vitamin B1, so long-term use may lead to thiamine deficiency.

Common Dandelion

Dandelion, also called common dandelion, increases the secretion of gastric juice and helps digest food. It facilitates the flow of bile into the duodenum and limits spasmodic conditions in the bile ducts. It also has other pro-health properties, which is why it is used for anemia, nephrolithiasis, periodontitis, rheumatism, furuncles and liver failure.

Alder Buckthorn

Alder Buckthorn extract is a popular mild laxative. It is the merit of the antracompounds found in it. Freshly harvested Alder Buckthorn works the most, but in this form it irritates the intestines more. This herb is also used in diseases of the liver and gall bladder.

Viola Tricolor (Wild Pansy)

Less popular, but also noteworthy herb is the tricolor violet, also called pansy. Extract from this plant stimulates metabolism, while the mucus contained in it increases the feeling of satiety and thus reduces appetite. Violet also has a positive effect on skin condition, strengthens blood vessels, alleviates rheumatic ailments and eye irritation.

Among herbs that have slimming properties there are also burdock, anise, basil, marjoram, rosemary, thyme, coriander and licorice root. It is worth remembering that such plants only support the fight against overweight, and their action is usually very mild. People who would like to reach for something with a stronger effect should be interested in dietary supplements regulating metabolism. Their effects include, among others, increasing the level of thyroid hormone and blocking the secretion of cortisol. There is no need to be afraid of the use of such dietary supplements, because the preparations permitted to be sold are carefully tested, so they do not pose any threat to human health. It is worth remembering that side effects may appear even when using herbs, especially when someone is allergic to them or eats them in excessive amounts.
