Dumplings – a recipe for dough for dumplings
Dumplings belong to flour products and are made by glueing, thin, flexible dough from various types of flour (wheat), rice, buckwheat, corn and rye with the addition of eggs, water, yeast and fat.
The dough for dumplings must be flexible and very well made so that the dumplings after cooking are soft. Thin pieces of dough – divided into squares or cut with a form – are filled with various stuffing with meat, cheese, vegetables and fruit, then applied to each other and glued, and finally cooked.
Dumplings can be prepared in various ways, including cooking, baking, frying or steaming. The shape of the dumplings, the method of preparation varies depending on the country. Dumplings are popular not only in Polish cuisine but also in Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, American, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Indian or Jewish.
American dumplings are in the shape of small balls, Italian dumplings are in the shape of pockets, a hat or a ring, Indian are in the shape of triangles, while Ukrainian, Polish, Russian and Belarusian in the shape of a crescent.
In every fourth tested frozen food, stuffing is missing. No wonder – the stuffing is much more expensive than flour, which mostly consists of frozen dumplings. No mushrooms were found in any of the products. The whole stuffing consisted only of cabbage. So read the composition carefully before buying this type of frozen food.
