Artemisia is characterized by a very wide range of beneficial properties for the human body. First of all, it has antispasmodic, bactericidal and anti-inflammatory properties. It also stimulates bile secretion. Besides it supports the fight against parasites in the human body.
Wormwood (absinthe) is called a maiden herb because it can help in regulating menstrual cycles. However, it is best known for its beneficial effects on the digestive system. An infusion or tincture of wormwood is recommended for indigestion, flatulence or liver problems. You can also drink them to quickly eliminate heartburn. This unusual herb also speeds up metabolism, and its bitter taste stimulates the appetite.
In the case of ailments of the urinary system, wormwood can also come to the rescue. The healing properties, in this case, will be related to the power to cleanse the body of toxins. So it will also be useful in the fight against herpes. Our ancestors knew that it is worth appreciating wormwood – it has been used in the treatment of various diseases for centuries.
In what form is it best to use wormwood?
The best form of taking Artemisia is an infusion of it. Just pour a teaspoon of the herb into a glass, pour boiling water and brew it for 20-30 minutes. After straining, drink a maximum of a one teaspoon – three times a day. This is how we should take wormwood for healthy purposes. The effect can be felt nearly immediately after drinking such a mixture.
If you need help with external treatment, try to cook wormwood. The healing effect will be stronger when you prepare a decoction in the proportion: one glass of water for two teaspoons of herb. After bringing it to a boiling point, you need to boil it for five more minutes, then cool down the whole mixture and use in the form of compresses or to wipe the skin. Bactericidal and disinfecting properties of Artemisia will be used, for example, in natural decontamination of wounds.
Absinthe, green fairies and wormwood – use in the alcohol industry
The leaves and flowers of Artemisia are also used to make alcohol. Absinthe is a high-percentage drink, initially created just as a medicine, which was made with the use of Artemisia. Of course, we don’t suggest drinking it in high amount to benefit from wormwood properties! You could also hear about seeing green fairies after drinking absinthe. That possibility of hallucinations after drinking absinthe was the main reason that it was banned to produce and sell the drink.
After some time, however, it turned out that such thinking is wrong, and problems in the nervous system appeared not due to wormwood itself, but a lack of restraint in the consumption of absinthe, often from unknown sources and suspicious, illegal production. Today you can easily buy absinthe tinctures or other alcohols containing wormwood. However, remember, as always with percentage drinks, be reasonable and moderate in their consumption.
